Liu Jinrui, Technical manager of Rianlon Corporation, delivered his report Rianlon's PA anti-aging solutions
The report is mainly divided into two parts.
Firstly, Mr.Liu discusses the aging and stabilization of PA materials. It explains that oxidative reactions in high molecular weight materials are caused by factors like oxygen, high temperatures, light exposure, mechanical forces, and metal ions. After oxidation occurs, it can impact various aspects such as polymer molecular weight distribution, mechanical properties, color, and gloss. Nylon is typically stabilized using auxiliary antioxidants, radical scavengers, and primary antioxidants. The report also covers the topic of photodegradation in nylon.
Secondly, he introduces PA anti-aging solutions. This section discusses the selection principles for additives in PA spinning and engineering plastics. In the high-speed spinning field, polyamide products (nylon) with high amino content exhibit better dyeing performance. However, exposed terminal amino groups are susceptible to oxidation in light environments. Additionally, nylon, due to the strong polarity of the amide groups in its structure, is sensitive to high temperatures, light exposure, and moisture, leading to reactions like cross-linking isomerization in the polymer chains, accelerating product aging, causing yellowing, deteriorating performance, and affecting product usability. Therefore, anti-aging measures must be taken, and one of the most effective methods is to add TAD/S-EED.
Finally, Mr. Liu also presents information about light stabilizers for nylon, stable formulations for polyamide based on amino values, and heat stabilizers for polyamide.
